The awesome MR crew had been flat-out the last 3 weeks, doing a test day at SMP with our GT4 and Sprint Challenge cars and drivers then travelling to The Bend to test with Lockie and Harri, to prepare for Carrera Cup round 4.

Both drivers were quick at the test, so we were confident of another solid weekend. Our Michelin Sprint Challenge drivers Daniel Quimby and Tim Farrell didn’t compete at The Bend, so we were a two-car team for the first time in many years.

This round also featured the second of two ‘endurance format’ rounds with two 45 - minute races, rather than the usual three 25 - minute Sprint races.

Virtually identical to race 1 at QR, Harri started race 1 from grid 2 and immediately took the lead into turn 1. He pulled a handy 2 second lead before the safety car was deployed.

After the restart he was chased by Russell until he eased away and posted the fastest lap for the race on the way to the win.

Lockie did a great job to qualify in the top 3 for both races. He started 3rd but lost a place on the run to turn one, then two more places after Love did a wild dive bomb at turn 6. He caught and passed Wood a few laps later and help a solid 5th till the end.

Summary

After both cars finishing in the top 5 in race 1 then Harri and Lockie starting on the front row for race 2, we were looking forward topping off a great weekend with another strong result, but unfortunately torrential rain at the start of race 2 lead to two laps behind the safety car, before the officials abandoned the race.

A small consolation is that Harri’s race 1 victory was MR’s first Carrera Cup 'Pro' win at The Bend. Now we get ready for Sprint Challenge and GT4 Round 5 at Sydney Motorsport Park next weekend.
